MTC ENGINEERING INTRODUCES THE V-ROD SLIDERTuesday, January 31, 2012MTC Engineering has been developing a new slider clutch for the Harley Davidson V-Rod motorcycle. MTC has had a multistage lock up for over 10 years but has not had the opportunity to develop the slider until this year. Since the V-Rod and its special edition V-Rod Destroyer are becoming more prevalent in the multi-classes they run, we have had multiple requests for the slider application. MTC teamed up with BlackCat Motorsports from Clearwater, FL to help develop the slider and test it on the track. Mike Marsh’s team gave us a motor to work with and provided installation feedback on the first install. “Working with BlackCat Motorsports has been a pleasure. They have documented all phases of the build and provided good feedback on improving the product” said MTC president Eric Hochstetler. The V-Rod slider is designed around the same concept as other MTC sliders. This slider required a replacement of the stock inner hub to a billet hub with the clamping surface at the bottom of the basket and required a larger opening in the stock cover with a quick access billet dome including a bearing support.
On BlackCat’s 1st test outing, driver Clint Riley equaled his best ever 60ft times and with deadly consistency. Team BlackCat Motorsports using the MTC prototype slider clutch won the AHDRA Cajun Nationals P/G class and at the AHDRA Finals in Rockingham were able to run back to back 8.38 and 8.39 et’s with 2 passes over 162 mph making it the quickest and fastest v-rod powered ¼ miler. Team owner and tuner Mike Marsh accredits much of their success to the tunability and durability of the slider clutch. Marsh describes the slider as “the great equalizer, a durable piece designed for racing at all levels”. Bracket racers will now have the ability to race off a button utilizing a crossover delay box, like their Japanese competitors and give the heads up races repeatable clutch engagement, eliminating driver error.
